Senior .Net Developer
Our opportunity
Senior .NET API Developer
We are hiring a Senior .NET API Developer to join the team building REDS - Risk Exposure Data Store. REDS is Zurich's strategic global platform for risk accumulation management. You will build robust, high-performance .NET APIs that connect REDS modules — to the shared data foundation on Databricks, Azure SQL and PostGIS. This is a hands-on senior .Net engineering role in a global, cross-functional environment, with strong exposure to business stakeholders across accumulation management, underwriting and modelling.
Your role
As Senior .NET API Developer, your main responsibilities will involve:
- Design, build and maintain .NET Core RESTful APIs that expose REDS capabilities to underwriting, modelling and reporting consumers.
- Contribute to architectural decisions for scalable, secure and cloud-native services on Azure.
- Integrate .NET services with Databricks, Azure SQL, PostGIS, message queues and internal Zurich platforms.
- Ensure high code quality through unit testing, code reviews, CI/CD, observability and secure coding practices.
- Collaborate with architects, product owners, modelers, data engineers and business stakeholders in an agile delivery model.
- Contribute to the modernization of legacy components and migration to the cloud native target architecture.
Your Skills and Experience
As Senior .NET API Developer, your skills and experience will ideally include:
- 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, ideally in international environments and in financial services, banking or insurance.
- Demonstrated experience building applications from the ground up, not only maintaining existing systems.
- Strong experience with .NET (latest LTS, .NET 8 preferred).
- Extensive experience developing .NET Core RESTful APIs in production.
- Solid experience with Entity Framework and the Repository / Unit of Work patterns.
- Strong T-SQL / MS SQL skills, including SELECT and UPDATE statements, joins, stored procedures and triggers.
- Experience with asynchronous programming and parallelization in .NET.
- Strong knowledge of unit testing frameworks and test-driven practices.
- Hands-on experience developing Azure Web Apps, Azure Functions and other Azure PaaS services.
- Experience with Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines, including build, release, code quality gates and automated testing.
- Strong analytical mindset and ability to learn new technologies quickly.
- Attention to detail and a genuine passion for delivering high-quality, maintainable code.
Nice to have
- Experience with Dapper or other micro-ORMs.
- Familiarity with Databricks, Delta Lake or Spark-based data platforms.
- Experience with PostGIS or other spatial data stores.
- Experience with event-driven architectures (Azure Service Bus, Event Grid, Kafka).
- Experience with API Management, App Configuration and Key Vault on Azure.
- Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes / AKS).
- Familiarity with domain-driven design and clean architecture.
- Experience with observability tooling (Application Insights, OpenTelemetry, Grafana).
- Experience with insurance domain concepts — exposure management, catastrophe modelling, underwriting workflows, SOV processing.
